Best Beaches on Abruzzo's Riviera delle Palme
Seven family resort beaches on Abruzzo's northern coast, from Martinsicuro at the Marche border down through Alba Adriatica, Tortoreto, Giulianova, Roseto degli Abruzzi, Pineto and Silvi Marina.
The Teramo coast, often branded the Riviera delle Palme for its palm-lined seafront promenades, is where most of Abruzzo's classic family beach holidays happen. The sand here is fine and pale, the seabed shelves gently almost everywhere, and a near-continuous cycling path links one resort town to the next, from the Marche border all the way down to Pescara.

Martinsicuro: The Northernmost Beach in Abruzzo
Right at the Tronto river border with Marche, Martinsicuro offers the same fine sand and gentle seabed found along the rest of this coast, with the medieval Torre di Carlo V standing near the seafront as a bit of history.
- Best for: a beach stop that doubles as a jumping-off point into Marche.
- Good to know: San Benedetto del Tronto, just across the river, is an easy day trip from here.
Alba Adriatica: The Silver Beach
Nicknamed the "Silver Beach" for the pale, shimmering tone its fine sand takes on in the sunlight, Alba Adriatica keeps a slightly lower profile than some of its bigger-name neighbours further south.
- Best for: a well-equipped family beach without the busiest crowds.
- Good to know: the seafront cycle path connects easily south to Tortoreto.
Tortoreto Lido: Beach Below a Medieval Hilltop Town
Tortoreto shares the hilltop-and-Lido structure found at Silvi further south: a medieval old town, Tortoreto Alto, sits inland while the modern beach resort runs along the coast below.
- Best for: pairing a family beach day with an evening trip up to the old town.
- Good to know: the wide sand and gentle seabed make it especially popular with young families.
Giulianova: The Golden Beach
Giulianova's beach takes on a golden hue at sunset, and the town backs it up with both Blue Flag water-quality status and Green Flag recognition for being especially suited to children.
- Best for: families specifically looking for child-friendly certified beaches.
- Good to know: the Renaissance hilltop old town, Giulianova Alta, is a short trip up from the Lido.
Roseto degli Abruzzi: The Lido delle Rose
Named for the rose gardens planted along its seafront, Roseto degli Abruzzi has held Blue Flag status continuously since 1999 and is one of the most consistently popular family beaches on this coast.
- Best for: families wanting a long-established, well-run beach with a very gentle seabed.
- Good to know: several of the larger beach concessions have dedicated children's play areas.
Pineto: A Blue Flag Beach Beside a Pine Forest
Pineto pairs its Blue Flag sand with the Riserva Naturale Pineta di Pineto directly behind it, a rare stretch of shaded coastal pine forest that keeps this beach greener and cooler than most of its neighbours.
- Best for: combining a beach day with shaded walks or cycling through the pine reserve.
- Good to know: it sits conveniently between Silvi and Roseto degli Abruzzi on the coastal cycle path.
Silvi Marina: The Pearl of the Adriatic
Seven kilometres of fine sand run beneath the clifftop medieval village of Silvi Alta, a dual identity that gives Silvi more historical depth than most beach resorts on this stretch of coast.
- Best for: combining a long resort beach with an evening trip up to a genuinely old hilltop village.
- Good to know: it's the southernmost stop on this list, closest to Pescara.
Choosing a Beach on the Riviera delle Palme
All seven beaches share the same basic formula - fine sand, a gentle seabed, extensive beach concessions - so the choice usually comes down to small details. Giulianova and Roseto degli Abruzzi have the strongest family credentials with Green and Blue Flag recognition; Pineto adds a shaded pine reserve most of the others lack; Silvi and Tortoreto pair the beach with a genuine medieval hilltop town above; and Martinsicuro and Alba Adriatica work well if you want easy access to Marche or simply a quieter version of the same coast.
