Abruzzo Beaches You Can Reach Without a Car
Six Abruzzo beaches genuinely reachable by train and a short walk, from Martinsicuro at the northern border to Marina di San Vito on the Costa dei Trabocchi.
Abruzzo's beaches are mostly a car-and-drive experience, spread along a coast where the Adriatic train line runs close to the shore for most of its length. That proximity means a genuine handful of beaches are within easy walking distance of their station, rather than requiring a taxi or long bus ride for the final stretch.
This guide covers six of the most straightforward, spanning the full length of the coast from Martinsicuro in the north to Marina di San Vito on the Costa dei Trabocchi.
Martinsicuro: A Short Walk from the Station
Martinsicuro station sits close to the seafront, making this Abruzzo's easiest beach to reach by train right at the northern edge of the region.
- Best for: arriving car-free at the very start (or end) of the Abruzzo coast.
- Good to know: it's also an easy walk or short bus ride into Marche's San Benedetto del Tronto.
Giulianova: Station Close to the Lido
Giulianova station sits close to the Lido seafront, an easy walk to one of the coast's widest and most popular beaches.
- Best for: combining car-free beach access with a trip up to the Renaissance old town.
- Good to know: local buses also connect the station to Giulianova Alta above.
Silvi Marina: A Walkable Seafront Station
Silvi station is close to the seafront, a short walk or bus ride from seven kilometres of sand, with Silvi Alta's old town reachable by local bus above.
- Best for: a car-free base with both beach and hilltop old town in reach.
- Good to know: the seafront cycle path also connects onward to Pescara and Roseto degli Abruzzi.
Pineta Dannunziana: Walkable from Pescara Centrale
Pescara Centrale is a walkable 20-30 minutes along the seafront promenade from this beach, or a short bus ride if you'd rather not walk the whole way.
- Best for: visitors already based in central Pescara without a car.
- Good to know: the pine reserve behind the beach makes the walk more pleasant than along the open seafront.
Marina di San Vito: An Easy Walk from the Station
San Vito-Lanciano-Rocca San Giovanni station is close to the Marina, an easy walk down to the beach and harbour on the Costa dei Trabocchi.
- Best for: exploring the Trabocchi Coast by train and on foot rather than by car.
- Good to know: the Sentiero Verde path connects onward to Rocca San Giovanni and Fossacesia without needing transport.
Vasto Marina: Reachable via Vasto-San Salvo Station
Vasto-San Salvo station is close to the seafront, a short taxi or bus ride from Vasto Marina's beach concessions and promenade.
- Best for: a full-service resort beach day without driving.
- Good to know: it's also the easiest way to reach nearby San Salvo Marina and Punta Aderci by public transport.
Getting Around Abruzzo's Coast by Train
The Adriatic line runs the length of the Abruzzo coast, with a station in almost every town on this list, so a multi-stop itinerary without a car is genuinely workable. Martinsicuro, Giulianova and Silvi Marina are the easiest starting points in the north, Pineta Dannunziana works well as a Pescara-based day out, and Marina di San Vito and Vasto Marina cover the southern Costa dei Trabocchi. For beaches further off the beaten path, like Punta Aderci or Casalbordino Lido, a taxi or bus for the final stretch is still worth budgeting for.
