Barabarca is one of Elba's wildest and least accessible beaches, a remote pebble-and-rock cove near Rio Marina on the mineral-rich eastern coast. There's no direct road to it — most visitors arrive by boat, while a rough, unmarked trail offers a harder route in on foot for experienced hikers.

Barabarca lies on Elba's eastern coast close to Rio Marina, in the same stretch of shoreline whose rust-red rock reflects the island's long history of iron mining. The cove is narrow and undeveloped, backed by dramatic mineral-streaked cliffs, with clear, deep water that makes it a favourite stop for boat tours working their way along the coast from Rio Marina or Porto Azzurro. There's no direct road access: reaching it on land means following a rough, largely unmarked trail that is steep and uneven in places, so it's realistically only an option for confident, well-prepared hikers with proper footwear. Because of this, Barabarca stays quiet even in peak season compared with Elba's resort beaches, most of the people who do visit arrive by boat rather than on foot. There's nothing built up here: no bar, no sunbed rental, no facilities of any kind, so anyone visiting needs to be self-sufficient with water, food and shade.
