The longest uninterrupted stretches of sand on Abruzzo's coast, from Francavilla al Mare's 8km promenade to Silvi Marina's seven-kilometre run beneath its clifftop old town.

Length isn't the only thing that matters on a beach, but it does change how a day there feels — more room to walk, more space between towels, and less need to arrive at dawn to claim a spot. A handful of Abruzzo's beaches stand out simply for how far they run without a harbour, headland or trabocco breaking up the sand. Here's how the coast's longest continuous stretches compare, ordered roughly from longest to shortest.

Francavilla al Mare

At around 8km, Francavilla al Mare's beach is one of the longest uninterrupted sandy stretches on the whole Abruzzo coast, backed by a palm-lined promenade for its entire length. - Best for: the longest single stretch of sand in Abruzzo, split between Piazza Sirena and Piazza Adriatico. - Good to know: its size means the beach absorbs peak-summer crowds better than smaller beaches nearby.

Silvi Marina

Seven kilometres of fine golden sand run beneath the clifftop old town of Silvi Alta, earning Silvi Marina its nickname, the "pearl of the Adriatic". - Best for: the second-longest continuous stretch on the coast, with room to spare even in August. - Good to know: the free public stretches at either end of the beach tend to be quieter than the middle.

Giulianova

Giulianova doesn't carry an exact kilometre count in the same way, but its wide golden-sand beach runs the full length of the town's palm-lined seafront, backed by a Renaissance old town at one end — one of the longer uninterrupted stretches on the Teramo coast. - Best for: a long beach walk that ends with a climb up to a historic old town. - Good to know: the beach continues seamlessly into Tortoreto and Alba Adriatica, so the sand effectively runs even further if you keep walking.

Roseto degli Abruzzi

The Lido delle Rose is one of the wider, longer sand runs on the Teramo coast too, its full length backed by rose gardens rather than a promenade road. - Best for: a long, flat walk with a shallow shelf the whole way, good for families as well as distance. - Good to know: the beach runs for over seven kilometres, putting it close to Silvi Marina in length.
