Best Beaches to Reach by Boat on Elba

Five Elba beaches worth seeing from the water: a cove with no road at all, boat rental right on the sand, and beaches regularly visited by tours working the coast.

Elba's boat culture goes well beyond the ferry to the mainland. Along the coast, rental boats and organised tours regularly stop at beaches that are either genuinely hard to reach by land or simply worth seeing from the water, and a few beaches also rent out pedal boats or small craft directly from the sand. Barabarca is the extreme case: there's no road to it at all. The other four are all reachable by car too, but each has a real boat angle worth knowing about before you go.

Barabarca: No Road, Boat Only

Barabarca, near Rio Marina, is the one beach on this list where a boat isn't just an option, it's genuinely the most practical way in. There's no direct road to the cove, and the alternative is a rough, unmarked trail suited only to experienced hikers. - Best for: seeing one of Elba's wildest coves without the difficult trail in. - Good to know: boat tours and rental boats from Rio Marina or Porto Azzurro regularly stop here along the eastern coast.

Innamorata: A Pedal Boat to the Gemini Islets

Innamorata's two small offshore islets, known as the Gemini, are close enough to reach by swimming, but a pedal boat or small rental boat from one of the beach clubs is the easier way to get out to them and back. - Best for: a short, easy boat trip you can do without leaving the beach. - Good to know: beach clubs on site rent pedal boats, canoes and SUPs in season.

Sansone is a regular stop for boat tours and rental boats exploring the coast around Capo Bianco and Capo d'Enfola, and arriving by water is a genuinely popular way to skip the steep 10-minute path down from the road. - Best for: reaching one of Elba's best-known coves without the walk in. - Good to know: arriving by boat doesn't avoid the crowds in peak season, since it's a popular stop for tours as well as walkers.
