Vialattea's five resorts suit very different trips - here's which one to pick if you want nightlife, family-friendly slopes, guaranteed snow, a quiet base, or the lowest prices.

If you want nightlife: Sauze d'Oulx

Sauze d'Oulx has the strongest, most reliable evening scene in the Vialattea, and has done since the 1970s. A dense cluster of bars sits right in the village centre, and it gets genuinely lively over Christmas, New Year and February half-term. If you want families and beginners: Claviere

Claviere is the gentlest, most low-key of the five - wide, easy slopes, well-maintained cross-country trails, and a quiet evening scene that suits families more than groups looking for a big night out. If you want guaranteed snow and big mileage: Sestriere

As the highest base in the Vialattea at 2,035m, Sestriere holds snow better than anywhere else in the network, especially early and late season. If you want a quiet, sunny base: Sansicario

Sansicario is the calmest and most residential of the five - sunny, south-facing pistes through larch forest, little nightlife, and an easy lift link into the busier parts of the Vialattea when you want more to do. If you're on a budget: Cesana Torinese

Cesana Torinese is the lowest and most affordable base in the Vialattea, a real valley town rather than a resort village. A gondola gets you up to the slopes around Sansicario each morning, and accommodation is noticeably cheaper than higher up the mountain - the trade-off is a short commute to the snow rather than true ski-in ski-out.
