How to get there

By train: Can't reach by train but ferries arrive at Amalfi’s harbour, just a short walk from Marina Grande. This is one of the easiest ways to visit Amalfi in summer, especially from Positano, Salerno, Sorrento or other Amalfi Coast towns.

By bus: SITA buses connect Amalfi with towns such as Positano, Praiano, Ravello, Maiori and Salerno. From the bus stop, Marina Grande is within easy walking distance.

Parking: You can drive to Amalfi, but parking is limited and expensive in high season. A scooter is usually easier than a car, but you should still expect traffic on the coastal road.

On foot: If you are staying in Amalfi town, Marina Grande is very easy to reach on foot. It is one of the most accessible beaches on this part of the coast.

More about Marina Grande Amalfi

Marina Grande is Amalfi’s main beach and the easiest place to swim if you are staying in town. It sits directly below the historic centre, just a short walk from the cathedral, the harbour and the main streets. This makes it one of the most convenient beaches on the Amalfi Coast, especially if you do not want to rely on a car, bus or long staircase to reach the sea. The beach has the classic Amalfi Coast mix of pebbles and small stones, with clear water and a lively summer atmosphere. It is not the quietest beach in the area, but it is practical, central and scenic, with the town behind you and boats moving along the coast nearby. Marina Grande works well for an easy beach day. You can rent sunbeds and umbrellas at one of the beach clubs, swim for a few hours, have lunch nearby and walk back into Amalfi whenever you need a break from the sun. There is also a free public section, although space is limited and it can fill quickly in high season. Because the beach is so central, it is especially useful if you are visiting Amalfi for the day by ferry. You can arrive in town, explore the historic centre, visit the cathedral, then walk to the beach without needing any extra transport. It is also a good option for families or anyone who wants facilities close by rather than a remote cove. For a quieter swim near Amalfi, Duoglio Beach is usually a better choice, although it requires more effort to reach. But if you want a simple, scenic and convenient beach in Amalfi itself, Marina Grande is the obvious place to start.
