A clear-water beach near Amalfi, reached by steps or boat and backed by dramatic cliffs.
Duoglio Beach is one of the best beaches near Amalfi if you want clearer water and a more scenic setting than the town’s main beach. Set below the coastal road just outside Amalfi, it has a pebbly shoreline, deep blue water, beach clubs and a dramatic cliff backdrop.
Free public access via the staircase from the coastal road
Beach clubs available: Yes — sunbeds and umbrellas can usually be rented in season.
By train: Can't reach by train. In season, boat transfers from Amalfi may be available and are often the easiest way to reach the beach without using the steps.
By bus: SITA buses run along the Amalfi Coast road. Ask for the stop near Duoglio, then walk down the staircase to the beach.
Parking: You can reach the area by road, but parking is very limited. A scooter is easier than a car, but you still need to be careful where you stop.
On foot: It is possible to walk from Amalfi along the road, but this is not the most comfortable option because of traffic and narrow sections. The final access is by steps down to the beach.
Duoglio Beach is a beautiful alternative to Amalfi’s busy main beach. It is only a short distance from the town centre, but it feels more tucked away, with cliffs behind the shore and clear water that is ideal for swimming. The beach is reached from the coastal road by a long staircase, which helps keep it slightly less hectic than Marina Grande in Amalfi. The walk down is manageable, but the climb back up can feel tiring in the heat, especially after a full beach day. If you want to avoid the steps, arriving by boat from Amalfi can be the easiest and most scenic option in season. Duoglio is mostly pebbles and small stones, so it has that typical Amalfi Coast feel rather than soft sand. The water is usually clear and deep, making it a good choice for swimming and snorkelling. It is still popular in summer, but the setting feels more natural and less town-centre than Amalfi’s main beach. There are beach clubs on Duoglio where you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas, plus a small free public area. Because the beach is not huge, space can disappear quickly in July and August. If you are planning to spend the whole day here, it is worth booking ahead or arriving early. Duoglio works especially well if you are staying in Amalfi but want a prettier, clearer-water beach without travelling far. It gives you the feeling of a scenic Amalfi Coast cove while still being close enough to town for an easy half-day or full-day beach trip.
