Lavarone is the smaller, gentler sibling to Folgaria on the Alpe Cimbra plateau, with a downhill area heavily skewed toward easy, family-friendly terrain and a strong cross-country skiing tradition at the nearby Millegrobbe centre. The resort sits beside Lake Lavarone, a karstic lake where Sigmund Freud spent several summers in the early 1900s, and beneath Forte Belvedere-Gschwent, the largest of the Austro-Hungarian First World War forts built in Trentino, now open as a museum.
Around 22 km of Lavarone's pistes - roughly 73% of the total - are easy, gentle runs, making this one of the most beginner-skewed ski areas in Trentino.
Intermediate
6kmpistes
Around 6 km of pistes are groomed intermediate runs, a modest share alongside the dominant easy terrain.
Advanced
2kmpistes
Advanced terrain is minimal, at only around 2 km - Lavarone is not a resort built around demanding downhill skiing.
Practical Information
Season
Typically early December to early April, snow conditions permitting
Snow Reliability
Snowmaking on the main runs helps keep conditions usable through a normal season, though Lavarone's lower average altitude means natural snow can vary more than at higher Alpine resorts.
Linked ski area
Alpe Cimbra: a single skipass covers Lavarone, Folgaria and Fiorentini, for up to around 104 km of pistes depending on how the network is counted. A wider "Grandi Altipiani" pass can also be combined with the Asiago plateau in Veneto.
