Piemonte's Ski Resorts You Can Reach by Train

Most Alpine ski resorts need a car or a bus transfer to reach. Bardonecchia and Limone Piemonte are the exceptions - both have their own train station in town, making a car-free ski trip from Turin genuinely possible.

Bardonecchia - direct from Turin Porta Nuova

Bardonecchia has its own station on the Turin-Modane line, with direct trains from Turin Porta Nuova taking around 1h30 - one of the more convenient rail links to skiing anywhere in the Alps. A free shuttle bus connects the station to the lifts. Once there, the skiing splits across two distinct sectors: the sheltered, tree-lined runs of Colomion and Melezet, and the high, open bowls of Jafferau, which hosted snowboard events at the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics. Limone Piemonte - close to the Italian Riviera

Limone Piemonte has its own station close to the village centre on the Cuneo-Ventimiglia line, reached from Turin via a change in Cuneo or Fossano in around 2 hours. A gondola leaves from near the station, so no car is needed once you arrive. The ski area, Riserva Bianca, spans around 80 km of pistes, and its position close to the Mediterranean gives it unusually reliable natural snow for a resort of its altitude. Planning a car-free ski trip

Both trips start from Turin, but head in opposite directions. For Bardonecchia, take a direct train from Turin Porta Nuova on the Turin-Modane line - around 1h30, with a free shuttle bus linking the station to the lifts. For Limone Piemonte, you'll need a change in Cuneo or Fossano before joining the Cuneo-Ventimiglia line - around 2 hours in total, arriving close to the village centre and its gondola. Neither resort requires a car once you've arrived - Bardonecchia's shuttle bus links the station, town and lift bases, while Limone's compact village centre puts the gondola within easy walking distance of the station. Both are also realistic day trips from Turin if you'd rather not stay overnight, though an early train and a full day on the slopes makes for a long day either way. If a car is available to you, both resorts are also reachable by road - Bardonecchia via the A32 motorway, Limone Piemonte via the A6 and SS20 - but the train link is the genuine differentiator that sets these two apart from most other Piemonte resorts.
