Vieste (Pizzomunno)

A long golden beach on the Gargano coast, marked by the legendary Pizzomunno sea stack.

Overview

Pizzomunno beach stretches south from the centre of Vieste on the Gargano peninsula, a long run of fine golden sand named after the 25-metre limestone monolith standing at its northern end. It's a well-equipped, family-friendly beach reached on foot from town or along the coastal road. The shallow, gently sloping seabed makes it one of the easier swims on this stretch of Adriatic coast.

Facilities

Practical tips

The Pizzomunno stack marks the northern end of the beach and is worth seeing up close before you settle in - the sand gets progressively quieter as you walk further south from town. Street parking near the entrances fills early in summer, so arrive before mid-morning or plan to walk from the centre.

More about Vieste (Pizzomunno)

Pizzomunno takes its name from the striking white limestone sea stack that rises at the start of the beach - the subject of local legend about a fisherman turned to stone by a jealous sea spirit. It's one of the most photographed features on the Gargano coast and a natural landmark for the roughly 2 km of sand that follows. The beach itself is fine and golden, with a shallow, gently sloping seabed that suits families and casual swimmers well. It's genuinely well equipped for a peninsula beach: restrooms, showers, children's playgrounds, bike rentals, umbrella and sunbed hire, and lifeguards are all present, with restaurants and bars easily reached along the promenade. Access is straightforward - it's an easy walk south from Vieste's town centre, with multiple entry points along the way, or a drive along the SS89 towards Mattinata. There's no dedicated car park, so parking is on the street near the entrances, best arranged early in summer. Pizzomunno suits a straightforward beach day with a landmark view rather than a wild or remote setting - a good pick if you're staying in Vieste and want an easy walk to a long, well-served stretch of sand.
