A long sandy beach in front of Varigotti's pastel-coloured fishing village, with shallow turquoise water perfect for families.
Spiaggia di Varigotti stretches along the seafront of one of Liguria's prettiest villages, with its row of ochre, pink and yellow Saracen houses opening straight onto the sand. The water shelves gently and stays shallow for several metres, making it ideal for families with children. The historic borgo behind the beach is full of small bars, gelaterie and seafood restaurants - a classic spot for a sunset aperitivo with feet in the sand. A short walk west leads to the wilder Baia dei Saraceni.
Mixed free and private. A wide free section is open to everyone along the central seafront, with paid lido sections (sunbeds and umbrellas) at either end.
Beach clubs available: Yes — sunbeds and umbrellas can usually be rented in season.
By train: No train station in Varigotti. Closest stops are Finale Ligure (5 km) and Noli (3 km), both on the Genova–Ventimiglia line. From Finale Ligure, take bus line 40 to Varigotti (about 10 min).
By bus: TPL Linea bus 40 runs frequently along the coast between Finale Ligure, Varigotti and Noli - the easiest way to avoid parking hassle.
Parking: Paid street parking (blue lines) along Via Aurelia and small paid lots at the village entrances. Spots are scarce in July and August - consider parking in Finale Ligure and taking the bus.
On foot: None - the beach is right in front of the village, with direct access from the seafront promenade.
Spiaggia di Varigotti is one of the most charming beaches on the Riviera di Ponente, set in front of the old seaside village of Varigotti between Finale Ligure and Noli. With its colourful houses, clear blue water and relaxed village atmosphere, it is one of the best places in Liguria to combine a beach day with lunch, aperitivo or a slow walk by the sea. The beach is easier and more practical than nearby Baia dei Saraceni, while still offering a beautiful coastal setting. Instead of feeling like a hidden cove, Spiaggia di Varigotti has more of a classic Ligurian village feel, with the beach running along the seafront and restaurants, cafés and gelato shops close by. The shoreline is mostly sand mixed with small pebbles and gravel, so it is more comfortable than many rocky Ligurian beaches, although water shoes can still be useful near the water. The sea is usually good for swimming when calm, and the beach works well for couples, families and visitors who want a scenic but manageable beach day. Spiaggia di Varigotti has both public beach areas and managed beach clubs, so you can choose between a simple free beach stop or a more comfortable setup with sunbeds and umbrellas. In summer, the public areas can fill quickly, especially in July and August, so it is worth arriving early if you want a good spot. Varigotti is easiest to reach by car or by bus from Finale Ligure, Noli or nearby towns. If you are travelling by train, the nearest useful station is Finale Ligure Marina, with onward bus or taxi connections to Varigotti. Parking can be limited in peak season, so staying nearby or arriving early makes the beach day much easier. For the best experience, visit Spiaggia di Varigotti in May, June or September, when the weather is warm but the village is less crowded. In peak summer, treat Varigotti as a popular seaside village rather than a quiet hidden beach, and stay into the evening for aperitivo or dinner by the sea.
