Spiaggia di Paraggi is one of the most beautiful and recognisable beaches near Portofino, set in a small sheltered bay between Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino. Known for its clear emerald water, soft sand and elegant coastal setting, Paraggi feels more polished and exclusive than many other beaches in Liguria. The beach is a great choice if you want calm water, a scenic swim and one of the most photogenic bays on the Riviera di Levante. Unlike many Ligurian beaches, Paraggi has a sandy shoreline, which makes it more comfortable for swimming and sunbathing. The bay is sheltered, so the water is often calm and beautifully clear, especially in the morning. Paraggi is not a hidden or wild beach. It is small, very popular and partly occupied by private beach clubs, especially in summer. There are usually limited public beach areas, but space can be tight, so it is best to arrive early if you want to use the free section. If you prefer sunbeds, umbrellas and service, book a beach club in advance during peak season. The setting is what makes Paraggi special. The beach sits below green hills and elegant villas, with views across the small bay and easy access towards Portofino. It works well for a swim stop, a more polished beach day, or a special lunch and seaside afternoon rather than a quiet, low-cost beach escape. Paraggi is easiest to reach from Santa Margherita Ligure or Portofino by bus, taxi, boat, or on foot along the coastal route if you are comfortable walking. Driving is possible, but parking is very limited and expensive in high season, so arriving without a car is usually less stressful. For the best experience, visit Paraggi in May, June or September, when the weather is warm but the beach is less crowded than in July and August. In peak summer, go early, book ahead if using a beach club, and treat Paraggi as one of Liguria’s most beautiful but most in-demand beach spots.
