A wide, free public beach of dark sand and small pebbles in a quiet village between Cinque Terre and Levanto.
Bonassola is the relaxed alternative to its famous neighbours. The long bay is mostly free public beach, with calm water protected by two headlands and a flat seafront perfect for families. The village itself is small, walkable and connected to Levanto by a flat tunnel-and-bridge cycle path along the old railway.
Large free public sections along the bay.
Beach clubs available: Yes — sunbeds and umbrellas can usually be rented in season.
By train: Bonassola railway station - located just a 5-minute flat walk from the beach. The station lies on the regional Genoa–La Spezia line, making it a convenient and less crowded alternative to the Cinque Terre villages
By bus: Local buses connect Bonassola with nearby coastal towns such as Levanto and Framura. Services are limited but useful for short regional connections along the Riviera di Levante
Parking: Free and paid parking available near the seafront and around the town centre - generally easier to find compared to nearby Cinque Terre destinations, though spaces can still fill up in peak summer hours
On foot: Easy, flat access from both the station and parking areas directly to Bonassola Beach
Spiaggia di Bonassola is one of the best beaches near the Cinque Terre if you want a calmer, easier seaside day away from the busiest villages. Set in a small sheltered bay between Levanto and Framura, Bonassola has a relaxed town atmosphere, clear water and a long sand-and-pebble shoreline that feels more spacious than many Ligurian coves. The beach is a great choice if you want to combine swimming with a quieter village setting. It is less dramatic than San Fruttuoso or Baia dei Saraceni, but much more practical for a full beach day, with cafés, restaurants, beach clubs and public areas close to the seafront. Spiaggia di Bonassola is a mix of sand, gravel and small pebbles, so it is more comfortable than many rocky beaches in Liguria, although water shoes can still be useful near the shoreline. The bay is good for swimming when the sea is calm, and the beach works well for couples, families and visitors looking for a slower alternative to Levanto or Monterosso. One of the biggest advantages of Bonassola is how easy it is to reach without a car. The town has its own train station on the Genoa–La Spezia line, and the beach is within walking distance of the station. It also connects to Levanto and Framura by the scenic old railway cycle and walking path, making it a lovely stop if you want to arrive by bike or on foot. Bonassola is not a secret beach, especially in August when Italian families come for holidays, but it usually feels more low-key than the main Cinque Terre beaches. It is a good option if you want sea, food, village life and easier logistics in one place. For the best experience, visit in May, June or September, when the weather is warm but the beach is less crowded. In peak summer, arrive early for the public beach or plan ahead if you want sunbeds in one of the managed beach areas.
