A long, shallow sandy beach on Elba's north coast, a favourite with families.
Procchio lies on Elba's north-central coast in the municipality of Marciana, a roughly 1 km stretch of fine sand with a gently sloping, shallow seabed. It's known as one of the island's most family-friendly beaches thanks to the calm, shallow water close to shore. Two separate access points serve different stretches of the same long beach, one from the village centre and one from the Portoferraio side.
Free public access from two separate points: Via del Mare in Procchio village, and a second entrance at Campo all'Aia on the Portoferraio side. Beach clubs occupy parts of the sand alongside free sections.
Beach clubs available: Yes — sunbeds and umbrellas can usually be rented in season.
Numerous beach clubs operate along the beach, renting sunbeds and umbrellas, alongside free public sections.
By train: No direct train access. Elba has no railway, so this beach is not reachable by train.
By bus: Local buses connect Procchio with Portoferraio and other parts of the island, stopping near the village centre close to the main beach access.
Parking: By car: Procchio sits on the main road between Portoferraio and Marciana Marina; the Campo all'Aia access point is signed just before the village coming from Portoferraio. Parking is available near both access points, though spaces closest to the village centre fill first in summer.
On foot: From the village, Via del Mare is a level, tree-lined walk of about 200 metres to the beach; the Campo all'Aia entrance involves a narrower downhill road for around 400 metres.
Procchio is one of Elba's larger and more comfortable beaches, running for around 1 km of fine sand on the island's north-central coast. The seabed slopes very gently and stays shallow for a long way out, which is the main reason it's so often recommended for families - children can play and swim close to shore in calm, unthreatening water. There are two distinct ways in. From the village of Procchio itself, a tree-lined, limited-traffic street called Via del Mare leads to the beach after about 200 metres. Coming from the Portoferraio direction, a second access point at Campo all'Aia, just before the village, follows a narrow road downhill to the sea about 400 metres away. The two entrances effectively serve different stretches of the same beach, so which one you use affects how busy your particular patch feels. Facilities are well developed: numerous beach clubs rent sunbeds and umbrellas along the sand, and there are bars, restaurants, pizzerias and even sailing and windsurfing schools nearby, alongside hotels, B&Bs and rental apartments right behind the beach. This is a beach built around tourism infrastructure rather than a wild cove, which suits people who want an easy, well-supported beach day. Procchio works well as a base for a straightforward family beach holiday - shallow water, plenty of services, easy road access - rather than as a scenic, dramatic stop on a day of beach-hopping.
