A golden sand cove on Elba's southwest coast, often named the island's most photogenic beach.
Fetovaia sits on Elba's southwestern coast near Marina di Campo, a small cove of fine golden sand backed by Mediterranean scrub. It's one of the island's most celebrated beaches, known for shallow, gently shelving water that shifts through green and blue. The shallow entry and small scale make it a natural draw for families, though its size means it fills up fast in summer.
Free public beach with no entry fee, though beach clubs occupy much of the sand in summer. The free section is compact, so arrive early if you want space on it rather than a paid sunbed.
Beach clubs available: Yes — sunbeds and umbrellas can usually be rented in season.
Several beach clubs operate directly on the beach in season, renting umbrellas and sunbeds alongside a free public strip. Given how small the cove is, the free area fills quickly on summer days.
By train: No direct train access. Elba has no railway, so this beach is not reachable by train.
By bus: Local buses run along the western ring road from Marina di Campo towards Fetovaia in season, though most visitors still find a car easier for the final stretch down to the beach.
Parking: By car: From Marina di Campo, follow the provincial road south-west for around 9 km to Fetovaia. There's a paid car park directly behind the beach (roughly €20 for a full day, €12 for a half day in high season), plus a small free area nearby. Both fill early in summer.
On foot: The beach sits just below the road, with only a short walk down from the parking areas to the sand.
Fetovaia is often the first beach mentioned when islanders are asked to name their favourite, and it's easy to see why. The cove is small - around 200 metres of shoreline and up to 40 metres wide - but the combination of fine golden granite sand, a gently sloping seabed and water that shifts from pale green to deep blue gives it a postcard quality that's hard to match elsewhere on Elba. The shallow water close to shore is a big part of the appeal, especially for families with young children, and it's also what makes the beach so busy: there's a lot of demand for a relatively small stretch of sand. By late morning in July and August, the beach clubs and free sections alike are close to full, and the paid car park behind the beach tends to fill before most visitors even arrive. Facilities are well developed for a beach this size. Several beach clubs rent umbrellas and sunbeds, and there are bars and restaurants right behind the sand, so it's an easy place to spend a full day without needing to bring much. That convenience, combined with the setting, is exactly why it gets so crowded. If an easy, shallow swim in a beautiful setting is what you're after and you don't mind sharing the sand, Fetovaia delivers. If you want more space or solitude, this isn't the beach for it in peak season - smaller, quieter coves elsewhere on the island's west coast are a better fit.
