A small scenic beach below Ravello, with clear water, cliffs and a quieter feel near Amalfi.
Castiglione Beach is a small pebble beach on the Amalfi Coast, tucked below the cliffs between Atrani and Ravello. It is less famous than Amalfi’s main beach, but it has clear water, a dramatic setting and a quieter atmosphere that makes it a lovely option if you are staying near Amalfi, Atrani or Ravello.
Free public access via steps from the coastal road

Castiglione Beach is a small, scenic beach tucked beneath the cliffs between Atrani and Ravello. It is one of the best options if you are staying in Ravello and want to reach the sea without travelling all the way to Positano or one of the larger beach towns. It also works well as a quieter alternative to Amalfi’s Marina Grande. The beach has a classic Amalfi Coast setting: pebbles, clear water, steep rock behind the shore and a compact bay that feels more intimate than the bigger town beaches. It is not a hidden beach, but it does feel slightly more tucked away because you reach it by steps from the road rather than walking straight from a main square or seafront promenade. Castiglione is best for swimming and a relaxed few hours by the water. The sea is usually clear and inviting, especially on calm days, and the cliffs give the beach a dramatic backdrop. The shoreline is pebbly rather than sandy, so water shoes are worth bringing. Because the beach is small, space can disappear quickly in high season. There is usually a free public area, along with organised sections where you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas. If you are visiting in July or August, arrive early or book ahead where possible. Castiglione is a good choice if you want something prettier and less hectic than Amalfi’s main beach, but still easy to reach from Amalfi, Atrani or Ravello. It is not the most practical beach for families with prams or lots of bags because of the steps, but for couples, confident swimmers and anyone looking for clear water near Ravello, it is a lovely stop.
