Spiaggia di Alassio is one of the best sandy beaches in Liguria and one of the most classic seaside destinations on the Riviera di Ponente. Set along a long, gently curving bay, it is known for soft sand, shallow water and a lively town atmosphere, making it very different from the pebble coves found in much of the region. The beach is a great choice if you want an easy, comfortable beach day with space to walk, swim and spend time by the sea. The water is usually calm and shallow near the shore, which makes Alassio especially popular with families, couples and visitors looking for a more relaxed beach experience. Unlike many Ligurian beaches, Alassio is mainly sandy rather than pebbly, so it is more comfortable for sunbathing and walking barefoot. There are both public beach areas and many managed beach clubs with sunbeds, umbrellas, bars and restaurants, giving you the option of either a free beach stop or a more serviced day by the sea. One of the biggest advantages of Spiaggia di Alassio is its location. The beach sits directly in front of the town, so cafés, gelato shops, restaurants, hotels and the historic centre are all within easy walking distance. It is a good place to stay for breakfast by the sea, a long lunch, afternoon gelato, aperitivo or dinner after the beach. Alassio is also one of the easier Ligurian beaches to visit without a car. The train station is close to the town centre and seafront, making it a practical option if you are travelling along the Riviera di Ponente. In summer, the beach and town can get very busy, especially in July and August, so arriving early is still a good idea if you want space on the public beach. For the best experience, visit Spiaggia di Alassio in May, June or September, when the weather is warm but the crowds are more manageable. In peak summer, Alassio is best treated as a lively, classic Italian beach resort rather than a quiet hidden beach.
